Textile Collection Inspires Young Designers

Catwalks from London to Milan could someday shimmer with designs inspired by the St Edmundsbury Heritage’s resplendent textile collection, after student visitors were invited to craft their own interpretations.

Students from St Louis Middle and St Benedict’s Upper schools produced artwork of a very high quality after viewing the museum’s intricately beaded dresses, patterns and sketches. With expert advice and technique demonstrations from museum staff, the students were able to design original dresses and gloves, alongside fashion accessories and objets d’art, illustrating their artistic response and newfound confidence.

Teachers complimented the pupils’ improved evaluation and observational abilities when examining patterns and colours, as well as their expanded thinking on art and design linked to the enterprise agenda.
