Museum Buddies

Wroxham Primary School students didn’t know that a visit to the Mill Green Museum and Mill would turn them into amateur educators, historians and archaeologists.
When the Year 6 pupils toured the site, they were given the opportunity to make bread, do washing using a dolly tub and carbolic soap, and clean excavated Roman pottery. Curator Caroline Rawle then urged students to apply their impressions to running the museum for a day, including directing and teaching Year 1 students.
The older students said they learned the importance of teamwork and good communication and organisational skills. By cooperating with students, the museum was able to create a sustainable model to be used by other schools at any key stage.
